Every artist loves a blank canvas. Well, the same holds true for landscape designers. An empty piece of land holds so many possibilities – no matter the size. We understand, though if the possibilities and bringing them to life seem a little overwhelming. But turning your dreamscape into reality is not as difficult as you might think. The secret is knowing where to start and how to start and doing things in the right order. And all of this just takes a bit of planning!

One of the things we love about the Pacific Northwest is the ideal growing conditions that allow for a wide variety of plants to thrive in gardens here. The other thing we love is the ingenuity and creativity in landscape and garden design we see from yard to yard and neighborhood to neighborhood throughout the communities we serve. Over the years our crews and designers at Landscape East & West have seen trends come and go, but one trend we are always happy to see is foodscaping.

Living atop a hill can certainly provide ample and usable space if designed and landscaped in a way that best suits a homeowner’s needs. However, additional space isn’t the only item a contractor and designer should keep in mind. There can be challenges with a sloped yard, such as drainage, retaining wall construction, and more. This type of space requires creativity and thoughtful planning.

When an opportunity to help the environment and your children presents itself, you have to act. As the Chief Operating Officer at Landscape East & West, I could not ignore the efforts that parents, administration, and students were putting into overhauling the interior and exterior of Hallinan Elementary School, especially since my own children attend. I am proud to use my Portland landscaping expertise to assist in an Oregon Green School certification and towards the Hallinan Improvement Project (HIP).

is the importance of landscape lighting.
